Satavian Crisis
Following the dowfall of the National Government and the election of a center-left Labor government, lead by Eric Edwards, many on the right of the political spectrum refused to accept the results of the election. Some para-military organisations, such as De Volksmilitie, staged protests in the streets of Port Hope. On the 14th November, 1976, a car bomb mounted onto a truck that had been parked outside Dukeminster Avenue Police Station left one policeman dead, in addition to 14 people injured.
Initial reports had suggested the bombing was a gas leak, but it was later confirmed to be a home-made car bomb.
