Valen, officially the Valen Principality, is a nation in northeastern America. It is bordered by Vestby to the west and Greenlan to the southeast. It has a coast with the Kalaallit Sea to the south and the Arctic Ocean to the north.
Valen is ranked high for civil liberties and moderately for HRC-FS human rights. All civil liberties are protected, however additional public services required by HRC-FS human rights are not provided. Law enforcement are subject to very high standards, sometimes considered to be impossible to meet. Political freedom is rated high through its constitutional monarchy. The monarchy has lost a considerable amount of power and is no longer able to legally impose any absolute power.
Valen is very much a farm country with little else produced. Agriculture and aquaculture technology is also heavily invested in. Valen is the only country in the world where every edible plant is grown, many in greenhouses and greentowers. Since most of Kalaallit produces food, Valen must rely on its exotic foods for the economy. Several agriculture and aquaculture universities are also located in Valen.
Etymology
Valen is the anglicized surname of the founder and leader of the first settlement in the area, Einar Wallin. Originally the country was simply called Valen's Settlement, or Wallins Koloni in Valish, until Wallin was made Prince Einar by the populace. It was then known as the Valen Principality, or the Furstendömet Wallin in Valish.
