Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2021 (also known as MEHVEH 2021, VM2021 ) will be the sixth edition of the music contest, which selected the Britonish act for an upcoming Worldvision Song Contest and World Hit Festival. The competition will be organised by Brityunik Vefecosoin Cairkovoin [BVC], Britonisea's public broadcaster which focused on home-grown talent. The competition took place between the 6th March until 24 April 2021, longer than usual due to the new addition of the International Pre-Qualifiers stage. 21 countries from across the multiverse currently broadcast the event, with it being watched by approximately 40 million different households (~ 65-70 million people).
Format
Compared to the recent changes made at the 2019 and 2020 editions of Vha Mehlodhivestoile, there have been some substantial changes to the national final. This includes the addition of the Pre-Qualifiers round which took place in Cappehnyaden in the East of Britonisea. The Pre-Qualifiers round was introduced due to the high volume of international applicants this year. The Pre-Qualifiers round included international acts only, with some of said acts having songwriters from Britonisea and some did not have any personal Britonish connection. At the Pre-Qualifiers round, there was no live voting, with all 10 acts performing live on television before a round of voting would be open online and on the official VM2021 app for a week. There would then be a 30-minute show on the 13th of March to close the voting and to chat with the Pre-Qualifiers to find out more about them. The Pre-Qualifiers round will produce three winners; one going directly to the Grand Final (announced in Semi-Final 3 after the performance of Tobias Noah), and the other two winners announced in the Semi-Finals after the performance of the artist they will be performing against in the Battle Stage.
Two weeks later on the 20th April, similarly to the past editions of the Vha Mehlodhivestoile, there will be three Semi-Finals of 8 acts each, with the voting split remaining the same as it has been - 50% Britonish votes and 50% International votes. However, this year the International votes will include televotes and a jury vote to mirror that of Britonisea's points distrubtion. The scores will then be added up as a percentage (as they have been done for the Britonish votes) and added together to give a final result. The top 2 songs will qualify directly to the Grand Final, while the songs which placed 3rd and 4th qualifying to the Battle Stage. Overall three Semi-Finals, this will mean 6 acts will qualify to the Grand Final to join the 2 automatic qualifiers (the winner of the Pre-Qualifiers and Tobias Noah from last year). The final 4 acts to join the Grand Final will be found using the Battle Stage. Three international juries; Ertzei Kishim, Beepee, Natanya will pick their favourite Battle Stage act leaving only 1 act left to qualify to the Grand Final. The Britonish and International public will choose between the two international acts and two pre-qualified Britonish acts - with the top 2 qualifying to the Battle Stage duel in which Waisnor will pick the winner to qualify to the Grand Final.
In the Grand Final, all twelve acts must perform their songs live. Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2021 viewers will be able to vote for their favourite act from the start of the show until the lines close minutes after the International Jury votes come through. There will not be a limit of how many nations can vote in the final, but BVC says that this might change depending on how many nations show support. The Grand Final will see International Juries giving their favourite 10 performances points in WorldVision Song Contest format which will make up 25% of the score. The other 25% will come from the International televotes whilst the remainding points will come from the Britonish Jury (worth 1/12 of the overall Britonish score) and finally, the Britonish Televote (making up 11/12 of the Britonish vote). This means that the maximum an artist will be able to receive will be 288 points. Compared to last year, using Kelsey Banques' winning percentage, she would have won with 216 points instead of 222 points. A Jury reveal where spokespeople give 12 points out will still be included this year, but it will be accompanied by a percentage next to the total number which is what will be used to decide the total International Jury score.
This year, for the first time since 2019, the Britonish votes will have spokespeople to reveal the results of Britons.
Bidding & Campaigning
This year, there were a pre-determined decision on the cities that would be chosen to host Vha Mehlodhivestoile. The cities were chosen to make sure Vha Mehlodhivestoile is being held in a wide range of places. The reason for picking certain cities is to celebrate the Best of Britonish. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was unsure which cities would be hosting and with what capacity they would be hosting at. As we got closer to Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2021, the broadcaster announced that the broadcaster had permission to allow people into the stadiums in which they hosted at half capacity - with the Grand Final in Aloquirbe City allowing up to 75%. Weather permitting, the National Stadium in Aloquirbe (which is set to host the Grand Final) will have the roof open in order to make it more ventilated, thus more COVID safe.
