Victores officially the Great Socialist State of Victores also known by its native name Selestw is the largest country on the continent of Aridia. With a population of more than 70 million it contains more than two-thirds of the Aridian population and at almost 2 million square kilometers also covers the greatest area. Victores is governed as a semi-direct multi-party democratic republic run along socialist principles. The country consists of 30 circuits, three autonomous regions, and one special condominium shared with Xewthosha. The country spans a vast geographic domain from the sub-Antarctic to the equator and borders almost every other country in Aridia.
Aridia, and Victores in particular were the site of one of the world's first civilizations. Originating in what is now the province of Selestw, the Victoresian people originated as a collection of small tribal civilizations. They gradually unified into the Victoresian Empire under the Avari dynasty in the 10th century BCE, branches of which continued to rule Victores until 1947. The highly centralized empire shifted between periods of unity and civil war throughout the first millennium CE before rising to unify the whole continent by the 12th century. As it grew, the Victoresian fell under the influence of the nations of East and Southeast Asia, adopting much of their technology. The Victoresian Empire was an extremely advanced civilization, independently developing various technologies such as writing, blast furnaces, steel production, the windmill, and movable type printing. The Victoresian Empire began to weaken by the 17th and 18th century against increasingly more advanced European colonial empires. It was finally destroyed by the [Unamed Power] after a war in 1869 and imploded into a protracted civil war. The fragile 2nd Victoresian Empire entered the First World War as a co-belligerent to the Central Powers, resulting in being converted into a European mandate. Victores only regained independence in the aftermath of the Second World War with the success of the Victoresian Revolution and the foundation of the Socialist State of Victores. This would lead into the Aridian Colonial Wars, known as the Victorious Revolution in Victores itself. A revolution in 1994 brought to power the new democratic government of Victores that stands today.
The Victoresian economy is run under the principles of socialism, specifically self-management. Starting in the 80s, the country saw widespread economic liberalization and an end to top-down planning, the Victoresian economy experienced very rapid growth throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, however growth stagnated due to an economic crisis in 2009 that led to protests and the dissolution of the government. Victores has since recovered and continues to grow at a steady pace, it currently stands as one of the world's stronger economies. Victores ranks well in HDI, life expectancy, and education, despite this the average income in Victores lags behind many Western countries. Victores is a nuclear armed country, while the government claims to have advanced nuclear capabilities, they may be more limited than claimed. The Victoresian army is a volunteer force of just under half a million personal that is currently involved in small-scale conflicts across Aridia. Victores has pursued trade agreements with many countries and is a member of the United Nations as well as the Commonwealth of Free Nations

Transport
Transportation in Victores is managed by the Victoresian Ministry of Transport(MoT) and the National Transportation Authority(NTA). The difference being that the former mainly makes regulations while the latter directly manages State-owned transport corporations. The main transportation lines in Victores are the high-speed rail network and national highway system. Both are highly advanced and span across almost all cities in Victores. Air travel is not particularly popular since the trains are generally easier to work with, almost as fast, and far cheaper. International flight is mostly restricted to a few International Airports, the biggest in Nevi Seleste.
The Victoresian rail network is run by the state owned railroad company. The company functions as a collective with the lower leadership elected through democratic methods and the upper leadership appointed. The state company is for profit, however its legal markup is regulated by statute. The national rail system is divided into the light rail system and the high-speed standard rail system and the low-speed standard rail system both using. The latter was largely constructed through a series of Five-Year Plans in the 1960s to facilitate rapid troops and materiel from the industrial regions to ports to be taken to the wars in the overseas territories. Most of that rail network was converted to the high-speed rail system during the economic reforms and boom in the 1990s. The new train system involves several transcontinental bullet train lines which carry tens of thousands of passengers every day. Most train stations semi-directly connect to the standardized light-rail/subway system. While most of these are traditional style light rail, the Nevi Seleste light rail system is a monorail based system and several others are developing maglevs. The rail-road system is primarily based on a centralized computer system which controls autopilots connected to all Victoresian trains. Victoresian trains are all manufactured in the country.
Water-travel is also very common in Victores, a giant system of canals and rivers connect the most populated parts of the country. Many of these canals are centuries old and their construction was initiated under the Victoresian Empire. Victores has historically been highly dependent on the canals to move bulk goods from one corner of the Empire to another. Victores also boasts a large network of ports, including the largest port in the Southern Hemisphere in Nevi Seleste. Originally a military port, it was converted to civilian use in the 1990s. The Victoresian deepwater ports are vital for the success of the export-oriented economy.
Transportation by car is increasingly prevalent as Victoresians grow wealthier. Victoresian roads are not very developed with a relatively weak highway system, this is due to the historical reliance on the railroads and the lack of automobiles. The amount of road in Victores has more than doubled since 2000, however roads are still underdeveloped and traffic congestion is common, especially in the previously pedestrian cities. In the last years, the Victoresian government has initiated a massive program to connect Decia and Victores Proper by blasting tunnels through the Grey Mountains. The program named Yuzhi I is currently nearing completion with 9 separate highways piercing through the vast mountain range. There have also been several over-water highways built across Victores, the longest stretching across the Ionan Bay to connect New and Old Iona.
Air travel in Victores is regulated by the Department of Aviation under the MoT. About 30% of Victoresian airspace is reserved for military use, with no civilian aircraft allowed. Due to the sophisticated rail network, flying in Victores is far less popular than other countries. Comparatively few domestic flights are available. However flying has seen an increase in popularity due largely to increasing wealth and the association of airline fights with social status. As result of this, there has been controversy regarding air travel in accordance with socialist ethics. Ticket prices in Victores are high compared to the rest of the world, but the prices are set by the government in a system often criticized as useless and inefficient.
