Template:Infobox cycling race The Vyvluder Rengverd (/ˈvʏvlədeɾ ˈɾeŋveɾd/, English: Vyvlander Round Tour), commonly known as The Tur (/tʊə/, Vyvlander: Fe Tur /ðə tʊɾ/) is an annual long-distance stage bicycle race in Vyvland. The Tur makes up one of the four races in the Tour of Esquarium along with the Jornata di l’Hespeira, Tour de Francilie and Tour of Aucuria.

The Tur's route changes annually, though unlike the Tour de Francilie and Jornata di l'Hespeira, it is always held entirely within Vyvland due to Vyvland's remoteness from other countries. The Tur also always starts outside the Laanfenghaas in Lorence and finishes on Goydmurt in Vlud, though from 1936 to 1954 it started in other locations due to the partition of Vyvland.

Name

The competition's official name is the Vyvluder Rengverd, which translates into English as Vyvlander Round Trip. Its official English translation is Vyvlander Round Tour, though this is hardly ever used to refer to the event. However, more commonly - and almost universally in speech - the competition is referred to as the Tur, a borrowing into Vyvlander from Francilien French. This name is also the competition's common name in English, and is used even by the competition's organisers in branding, marketing and press releases.

History

The first Tur was held in 1907, making it two years younger than the Tour de Francilie but eight years older than the Jornata di l'Hesperia. It has run every year since except in 1933 and 1934, when it was called off due to the Vyvlander Civil War. After the war, the Tur's governing authorities did not want to lend legitimacy to the South Vyvlander regime by letting the race past through the South, so it was entirely held in North Vyvland from 1936 to 1945. In 1955, it was agreed that the Tur would start in its original starting place of Lorence; this marked one of the first steps of cultural rapprochement between North and South Vyvland. That year, Master President Erman Sanker and Prime Minister Payl Klosders jointly opened the Tur at the Laanfenghaas in Lorence, where it has started every year since.

Format

The Tur takes place over 21 days, with 19 stages and two rest days. Stages are timed from start to finish, with each rider's time added to their results from previous stages. Similarly to the other Grand Tours on the Tour of Esquarium, the rider with the lowest aggregate time is the leader of the general classification and has the right to wear the race's blue jersey (bleytroi). Although the the general classification garners the most publicity and attention, it is just one of the Tur's competitions alongside the points classification for sprinters (jewetroi), mountains classification for climbers (woittroi), young riders classification for riders under the age of 25 (redtroi) and team classification for the competing teams.
