Wilhelmus Frederick Fen (born July 12, 1981) is an Caregonian politician and a retired Caregonian Army non-commissioned officer. He has served since 2020 as the 38th governor of Onidah. He was a member of the Caregonian House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020.

Political positions

Abortion

William Fen holds a staunch anti-abortion stance, firmly opposing the legalization of abortion under most circumstances. He advocates for policies that would restrict access to abortion services and promote alternatives such as adoption. Fen has frequently spoken about the need to protect what he calls "the sanctity of life" and supports legislation aimed at severely limiting abortion rights, except in cases where the mother’s life is at serious risk.

Upon taking office, Fen implemented one of the strictest abortion laws in the nation, which effectively bans abortion after six weeks of pregnancy—a point before many women are even aware they are pregnant. The law includes no exceptions for rape or incest, a decision that has sparked significant controversy and protest, though Fen has remained unwavering in his commitment. Under this law, healthcare providers who perform abortions outside the narrow legal exceptions face severe criminal penalties, and women seeking abortions could also be subjected to legal consequences if found in violation of the law.

Fen has championed these policies as essential for protecting unborn children and promoting a "culture of life." He has also worked to strengthen adoption services and promote family planning that emphasizes abstinence or alternatives to abortion. His legislation, often referred to as the "Sanctity of Life Act," has drawn widespread support from religious and conservative communities, solidifying his base, but it has also faced intense opposition from pro-choice activists and women's rights groups. Despite the backlash, Fen remains a vocal proponent of the law, framing it as a moral duty to protect the most vulnerable.

Guns

Fen is a vocal supporter of gun ownership and the Second Amendment rights in Caregon. He has consistently advocated for fewer restrictions on gun ownership, arguing that responsible citizens should have the right to bear arms for self-defense and other lawful purposes. Fen opposes measures such as mandatory waiting periods and increased background checks, viewing them as unnecessary government overreach. His administration has championed laws that allow for easier access to firearms, including policies supporting concealed carry and opposing bans on certain types of weapons.

LGBT rights

On LGBT rights, William Fen holds a progressive view regarding gay rights, distinguishing himself from many conservative figures. He supports the legal recognition of same-sex marriages and has endorsed anti-discrimination laws that protect individuals based on their sexual orientation. Fen has often spoken about the importance of equality for gay and lesbian citizens and believes they should have the same legal rights as heterosexual individuals. His stance on this issue has garnered him support from more moderate and liberal voters while creating friction with certain conservative groups.

Despite his support for gay rights, Fen is notably opposed to the expansion of rights for transgender individuals. He has voiced concerns about policies that recognize or promote gender identity, particularly in areas such as healthcare, education, and sports. Fen opposes allowing transgender individuals to access gender-affirming medical treatments or participate in activities aligned with their gender identity. He has been a key figure in pushing for legislation that restricts access to transgender healthcare for minors and prevents transgender individuals from competing in sports consistent with their gender identity. His stance has been a source of controversy, particularly among LGBT advocacy groups.
