Year of the Parrot is a Gylian rock band, formed in 2006 in Estro. Its members are Céleste Soulier (bass, vocals), Iris Nágy (guitar), and Sachiko Mine (drums).

History

Céleste, Iris, and Sachiko were childhood friends, and formed the band while attending secondary school. They named themselves after a Primus song from Tales from the Punchbowl.

Their early material was predominantly funk metal and progressive rock-inspired. Later material displays more influence from post-rock.

Musical style

Year of the Parrot's music is classified as dance-rock and math rock. Their influences include Interzone, Nova Express, Talking Heads, Infectious Grooves, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Primus, Pavement, Tortoise, and Moonshake.

Their music is characterised by driving basslines, complex drumming, and intricate guitar arpeggios. It incorporates elements of funk metal, progressive rock, math rock, new wave, post-rock, and shoegazing.

Céleste serves as the primary vocalist, while Iris and Sachiko perform one lead vocal per album. Much of their lyrics reflect their working-class background in Estro.
