Zeytin officially the Turkish Republic of Zeytin is a state with partially recognition located between Southern Europe and the Middle East, but it is culturally tied with Southern European countries rather than with the Middle East.
History
In 1950 when Zeytin became independent, the Hellenes and the Turks started a military operation to invade the island, that operation was known as Domates by the Turks and tomáta by the Hellenes. The confrontations between Hellenes and Turks rapid increased and turned into a civil war between 1950-1982, losing many lives and producing a disaster in the island. In 1982, the Zeytinakite government, led by Chrisóstomos IX, signed a cease-fire in Heraklion and agreed to be part of a non-aligned coalition. The island was partitioned in two with a border known as the Blue Line, so as it is until nowadays.
