Loklan, officially the Loklan Federation, is a nation in eastern America. It is bordered by Hud to the northwest, Kecha to the west, Asal to the southwest, the Misipee Uninhabitable Region to the south, Nork to the southeast, and Cuba to the northeast. It has a coast with the Hud Sea to the north, James Bay to the northeast, the Ontro Sea to the east, and the Eery Sea to the east-southeast.
Loklan rates moderately high for civil liberties and high for political freedom. There are restrictions on expression such as hate speech and anything that arouses internal disruption. Any sort of organised protest and public disruption is banned, leading to constructive protest and criticism of the government extremely difficult. Prisoner rights do not exist, however the prison system has high safety ratings. Loklan is a democracy with no restrictions on ideologies, however protest and criticism of the government has several indirect restrictions.
Loklan is a major tourist destination for its position among the Great Lakes. It is considered the resort centre of America with hundreds of resorts and casinos located on every lake coast in the country. To the north, the major market is farming of several food products, especially animal products. The southern regions are sparsely populated due to severe weather and is the location of military training and tests, as well as underground infrastructure experimentation.
Etymology
Loklan literally means lake land due to the country encompasing the great lakes region of America. The name was chosen to prevent a show of favoratism among the member nations who united to form the country.
