The Republic of Pentium (Pentian: Poblachd na Coavia) is a nation located in Eastern Argis, its closest neighbors Skibbenon in the north and Aurivizh to the west To the South is the Geltic Sea and to the west is the Cetan Sea. It has a total land area of 87,500km^2, making it one of the smaller nations on the Argis continent. The Republic of Pentium has a population reaching approximately 36,780,182, making it one of the most populated nations in its local area. The nation is subdivided into 7 administrative zones that each form regional governments that are responsible for tasks that are delegated from the federal government.

Pentium has long been inhabited by a mixture of local peoples and peoples who migrated into the area for its preferable climate and fertile land, the mixing of these peoples and the native population has been a process that has been ongoing for thousands of years of the nations history. The oldest surviving records are dated to 200 BCE, written by proto-Gelts that inhabited the area.

History

Prehistory

The earliest recorded records that Pentian historians have access too are dated from 200 BCE and are theorized to be authored by the pre-Gelts that inhabited much of the northern parts of Argis. Records from other nations archives point towards Geltic settlement going farther back than Pentium's records, however it is known that these people settled down over most of the continent and would begin to form settlements that would provide the beginnings of an inhabited far east in Argis. Much of early Pentian history was defined by city states, places like Whedon's Row and Riversguard were centrally important cities during this era. Small kingdoms and fiefs existed within the modern Pentian borders but were generally isolationist or insular states that didn't interact often with each other beyond trading. This period of relative peace and calm would be interrupted in 932 AD. When several raids from mercenaries and rival clans from the west would begin raiding the peninsula.

North River Federation

A series of conflicts against rival clans and hired mercenaries caused several large and small city states to band together into the precursor to The Republic of Pentium in 935, forming the North River Federation as a response, the entity would successfully defend its borders during The Troubles and beyond. Expanding across the peninsula in order to provide protection and trade among the Geltic population. The Federation would last for over 900 years, setting the framework for the Modern Republic to take form.

Western Invasions

During the history of the Federation, there were two large invasions from the western part of the peninsula. The first saw the founding of the Federation itself and the foundation of the House of Callahan, one of the great houses of Pentium. It would take roughly two decades for this first conflict to come to a close. Once it completed however, the North River Federation was left as the dominant power of its local area and began an era of prosperity spanning roughly 200 years, ending The Troubles.

The second invasion would end the Era of Peace within the Federation, as a second campaign against the Federation was launched with the assistance of the Southern States that inhabited the southern costal regions of the Peninsula. While the Federation would once again push out the rival clans and mercenaries from the west, losses in the south were incurred from this second conflict.

The Republic of Pentium

The modern Republic was founded after the August Protests developed into full on revolts within major cities, a zeitgeist having formed around the idea of Ancaster Pentium's idea to form a republic after the close of the second western invasion. During a period of disenfranchisement imposed by the king at the time. A revolt at Riversguard caused the collapse of local government, and a take over of the city by republican revolutionaries with the assistance of elements of Federation forces.

Cities Revolt

Several revolts across the Federation rose in rebellion against the Monarchy, while several of these would by put down by the king himself. The defenders of Riversguard, now Saltbrook Channel managed to defeat the King and capture him. Forcing an abdication, the country would be ruled by a council of revolutionaries in Saltbrook Channel. This group would write a constitution and safeguard institutions from collapse. In 1821, the Republic of Pentium succeeded the North River Federation as the ruling state over the peninsula and the banner of the Republic would be instituted in 1822.

The Great War

A conflict spanning almost 60 years of brutal fighting between the Republic of Pentium and the Southern Union, starting in 1905 when the Southern Union declared war on Pentium. Early losses for Pentium caused several old and historic cities to be lost to the Union, the battles within these cities saw many historical records destroyed or stolen. Several advances in technology within both states, imports from other nations and innovation would eventually see Pentium win a costly naval engagement that allowed them to cut off the Union from external supply and see victory in 1964.

Isolation

The war had cost the Republic dearly, however the Peninsula was now under their control exclusively. The country would isolate itself from foreign states for many decades as it repaired itself and its industries. The isolation caused many of its external contacts to move on to other places, but it was deemed a required measure to ensure the nation could maintain itself after the war without external interference.

Modern Day

The country would reopen itself into the international community in 2004, but would remain relatively isolated for a decade due to an unwillingness to invest after the isolation period's uncertainty and unknown track record for FDI. In 2014, a monetary crisis would see the government bailed out by corporations in exchange for additional powers within the halls of power. Trading cash for a voice within parliament.

Imperfect Stability

For six years, corporations were able to stabilize the economy and improve the quality of life for the average citizen. Which saw the idea of a corporate run government grow in popularity, the election in 2016 election saw 32% of parliament go to the Sunhaven Corporate Concern party. However this honeymoon period would begin to wane in 2020, where the party would lose 10 points in parliament to independent candidates and other parties like Conservative Party of Pentium, Pentium Liberal Party. Tensions would rise further until July 2023, when Iain Callahan the president of the Republic tore up the Sunhaven accords
