The Army of the Els was the primary field army utilized by the Ambrosian Confederal Republic during the Great War of the North. Raised in 1861 following the declaration of war on Sjealand, initially it was composed primarily of volunteers and thanedred militias from the city of Elsbridge and the surrounding southern Harwick area, only being elevated to the status of regular army after absorbing the Army of the Glencamber in early 1862.
Nevertheless, it became the largest and most potent Ambrosian military force of the war, largely due to the fact that General Godfred Crovan, President and commander-in-chief, chose to lead the campaign at the head of this Army. The Army of the Els was responsible for many of Crovan's most impressive victories, including Skarloey Creek in 1861, Ruanaidh, Sean Làimhrig in 1862, and Watcester in 1862, Hearecester and the Mulford Heights in 1863, and Kelann and the Lydn Campaign of 1864. Crovan's death in Sjealand in 1864 caused command to fall to Israel Olesaw, who would command the Army for the rest of the war.
