Established in 1953, it was intended to unite [[Imagua and the Assimas]] by providing regular ferry transportation at "an affordable price," so to ensure that all Imaguans could freely travel between the islands.

Imaguan Government Railways operated three primary routes, which were:
Since 1 April, 1981, there are only three routes operated by the Imaguan Maritime Service.

*[[Rutigliano]]-San Pietro
*[[Nua Taois]]-San Pietro
 
These routes operate year-round, and are intended to operate daily services: thus, in the morning, ferries from Rutigliano and Nua Taois sail to San Pietro, and then fifteen minutes after arrival, the ferry from San Pietro departs to Cuanstad. In the afternoon, the order is reversed, with the ferry from Cuanstad arriving into San Pietro, and then fifteen minutes after arrival, the ferries sail to Rutigliano and Nua Taois.
