The Emerstarian Skille, also known as the Riksnot, is the official currency of Emerstari and its dependencies. In English, the currency is sometimes known as the shilling because Skille is Emerstarian for shilling. It is subdivided into 100 pennigarer (singular: pennigar, abbreviated: p). Several nations formerly a part of Emerstari use their own shillings, most notably Soumeland and New Retermi
The Emerstarian skille, also known as the riksmedall, is the official currency of Emerstari, its dependencies, and New Retemri that was introduced in 1627 in accordance with a new bimetallism by Ervin II Gustaf to replace the older, silver standard Sølving. It is identified with the ISO code "S," which follows the value in most cases. The skille is sometimes known as the shilling in English since skille literally means shilling in Emerstarian; the Soumian sjaåla takes its name from the skille.

One skille is subdivided into two halvinger, one Halving is subdivided into four kosmynter, and one kosmynt is subdivided into twelve pennigar. Thus, there are eight kosmynter and ninety-six pennigar in a skille. The kosmynt (Emerstarian: cow's coin) is possibly the oldest term in regards to Emerstarian currency, first being recorded in 734 as the price of a cow. There are seven banknote denominations within the system, and excluding special edition coins released by the Emerstarian government from time to time, there are nine coin denominations.

The skille is equal in value to the other currencies within the Ostensted Monetary Union; this means, in accordance with the most recent specifications set by the Ostensted Treaty Council in 1986, one skille is equivalent to 0.1 grams of gold or 0.56 grams of silver, as result of the set gold-to-silver ratio of 1:56.

The oldest known Emerstarian coin was found near Uppsalle and is believed to have been stuck around AD 830. Organized minting in Emerstari, however, was not introduced until the 1000s by Eirikr I. Coins during this era were primarily minted at Ljundburg and Månskilde, but also Ulgelse, Osterborg, and Rensulier. With few exceptions, nearly all these coins were of Emerstarian monarchs' portraits, names, or monograms.
The oldest known Emerstarian coin is a Kosmynt dating to AD 734, but systematic minting in Emerstari would not appear until unification in the eleventh century when the sølving, the Emerstarian currency from 1051 until 1627, was adopted. The largest center of minting was the the city of Rensulier but coins were struck in the cities of Ljundburg, Månskilde, Ulgelse, and Osterborg as well. With few exceptions, even to the present, Emerstarian coins feature monarchs with their names, monograms, and/or portraits.

The skille was adopted in 1627, when Ervin II Gustaf dropped the silver standard for the bimetallism. The adoption of the bimetallic standard would be an indirect cause of the Treaty of Otsensted between Canaria, Coelans, Emerstari, the Friedish Confederation, and Saurland in 1859, leading to the Otsensted Monetary Union. Under the treaty, each of contracting state's currency is equivalent and set to common specifications.

Decimalization
In 1627, the Skille was introduced into Emerstari. A monetary union was formed between Emerstari, Coelans, Saurland, the Friedish Confederation, and Canaria in 1862. The five currencies of the union were on the gold standard with the skille/skjille/schille being defined as 1/1100 of a kilogram of gold. The union dissolved when the in 1931, but afterward, each member-state opted to keep the shilling.
Since 1627, the skille had been subdivided into eight kosmynter; a kosmynt, in turn, was divided into sixteen forthings. before its replacement, the sølving had been subdivided similarly. In 1956, though, a special summit of the Otsensted Treaty Council required that each contracting state's currencies undergo decimalization on 1 January 1960. As a result of this, the skille is presently subdivided into one hundred pennigar; though, there is still a coin in circulation that is worth ¼ of a pennige.

The Emerstarian skille, also known as the riksmedall, is the official currency of Emerstari, its dependencies, and New Retemri that was introduced in 1627 in accordance with a new bimetallic standard by Ervin II Gustaf to replace the older, silver-backed Sølving.

History

The oldest known Emerstarian coin is a Kosmynt dating to AD 734, but systematic minting in Emerstari would not appear until unification in the eleventh century when the sølving, the Emerstarian currency from 1051 until 1627, was adopted. The largest center of minting was the the city of Rensulier but coins were struck in the cities of Ljundburg, Månskilde, Ulgelse, and Osterborg as well. With few exceptions, even to the present, Emerstarian coins feature monarchs with their names, monograms, and/or portraits.

The skille was adopted in 1627, when Ervin II Gustaf dropped the silver standard for the bimetallic standard.

Since 1627, the skille had been subdivided into eight kosmynter; a kosmynt, in turn, was divided into sixteen forthings. before its replacement, the sølving had been subdivided similarly. In 1956, though, a special summit of the Otsensted Treaty Council required that each contracting state's currencies undergo decimalization on 1 January 1960. As a result of this, the skille is presently subdivided into one hundred pennigar; though, there is still a coin in circulation that is worth ¼ of a pennige.

Banknotes

On 21 July 2002, Emeriges Riksbanke announced the names of the persons whose portraits would be on the new banknote series that would be introduced on 10 January 2004:
