The 28th Royal Guardsmen Division, otherwise known as the 28th Guardsmen Division, is a marine infantry/Guardsmen Division of the TECT Royal Guard. It is traditionally remembered as the original Royal Guard marine unit stationed in the Insel Islands area. 28th Division is popularly known for its garrison on the island of Breitbarth just outside the State's capital city (which shares the same name); the unit typically is regarded as one of the Royal Guardsmen units that protect the Insel Islands militarily and domestically. The 28th Division's garrison mission, however, is the protection of government sites, buildings, routine patrols throughout the islands, having troops act as part of the State's reaction forces, and for having units that directly protect important people and places. Among their routine duties, 28th Division essentially acts as a military police (security) force, infantry unit, and emergency response forces. Just as famous is their garrison base Marine Station Schoettmer, also known as "Marine Base Schoettmer", "Camp Schoettmer", and "Schoettmer Resort"; the base is historically the first Commoner military fortification established in the Insel Islands. The base is a registered historical location by the State and Imperial Governments, a Royal Guard Holy Ground, and popular tourist destination for military/historical interested vacationers. Among the few nicknames 28th Division have are "Immortal Gaters" (a moniker of the myth that Royal Guardsmen are immortal soldiers - signifying they're immortal alligators, a marine moniker) and "Screaming Tortoises", which is a moniker to their use of amphibious marine vehicles. 28th Division is currently garrisoned to their historical home Marine Station Schoettmer, although several military posts throughout the State also garrison active troops.
The current commanding officer of 28th Division is Generalmajor (Major General) Lutz Schreck, a seasoned officer in the Royal Guard who originally served as a Royal Guard Marine before transferring to the Guardsmen; he is proceeded by Obersts (Colonels) Friedemann Bleier, the vice-commanding officer, and Moritz Schwenke, the Sergeant-at-Arms. Both men also serve as Regimental commanders. Although not as deeply rooted as 1st Division, the 28th Division has its own rich history in the Insel Islands that draws similar respect, both militarily and historically. 28th Division is uniquely a marine infantry unit, unlike other Guardsmen Divisions; this reflects the terrain they operate from, also reinforcing their moniker as screaming tortoises based off their extensive use of amphibious vehicles.
Organization & Structure
28th Division is made up of a fifteen thousand man unit, hence its organizational title. It is made up of two marine combat regiments (generally containing infantry and marine support armor), an airborne regiment, military police and Support/Services battalions, reconnaissance and air-defense battalions, and the Headquarters battalion. Although the majority of the Division comprises of infantry forces with armored transport support, the unit utilizes many heavily armed amphibious ground vehicles as support with artillery pieces ranging from howitzers to mortars as fire support; a variable amount of marine aircraft and civilian friendly wheeled vehicles also make up their inventory.
As a Royal Guard unit, each infantry unit comes standard with the traditional armor and armament layout similar to Marine loadouts; this includes AR Fortgeschritten rifles instead of AR Scorpion rifles and various uniform options. However, as a Guardsmen unit, 28th Division infantry soldiers are issued a traditional ceremonial uniform and a modern produced Karabiner 98k. These ceremonial attires are for special events, civilian ceremonial stations, and other formal events; fully combat uniformed units are present in many quick-reaction stations if needed, however.
