2 Naval Brigade is an elite brigade of the Royal Radictistan Army specializing in amphibious warfare and parachute operations. The brigade is an all-volunteer formation, in contrast to most Radictistani military units which are formed around masses of conscripts. It is stationed within the County of Greater Nuxenstat in order to act as a regime protection force in the case of an attempted coup. For that reason, 2 Naval Brigade personnel are highly screened for loyalty to the Grand Duke and his family.
24 Light Battalion, one of 2 Naval Brigade's four organic infantry battalions, was deployed to Indras as part of the Radictistani peacekeeping force. Domestically, the brigade was a key player in the Tenth of May Incident.
Organization
Unlike most Radictistani maneuver formations, 2 Naval Brigade is organized on a square model with four light infantry battalions serving as the primary maneuver elements. There is also an assault amphibian battalion, an air defense regiment, a military police company, a combat engineer battalion, an artillery battalion, and a logistics battalion. All subordinate formations are capable of leaving for overseas deployment within forty-eight hours of being ordered to do so.
Training and selection
Enlisted personnel of 2 Naval Brigade are all volunteers. Typically, an incoming conscript or newly enlisted contract soldier will volunteer for service with the brigade upon completion of basic training. They will then complete specialist infantry training, then amphibious warfare training and parachute qualification in either possible order. Because of the substantially longer time to train a naval brigadier, conscripts have their initial term of service extended to three years. Most volunteers to the brigade choose to become career noncommissioned officers. The brigade therefore acts as an ad hoc NCO school, where the future enlisted leaders of the army are groomed.
Commissioned officers are assigned to the brigade according to the army's normal personnel protocols and after rigorous psychological screening. All officers assigned to the brigade must complete parachute and amphibious training just as the enlisted personnel are required. In both cases, the brigade is considered a choice assignment because of the bonus pay awarded to its organic personnel.
