Following the war, Roy settled in Geelong and married his college sweetheart, [[Inna Kinoshita]]. They had 4 children together. He noted that his favourite grandchild was [[Darzana Magbaredge]], who would often play with her every time she visited his home. However, in 2000, Darzana was involved in an accident with her parents. Her parents died while Darzana lived. When Peterson found out about the accident, he broke down as the media reported that the occupants in the car died. This was considered by most of his family members as his cause of death.
