During reunification the name Taraest was selected as it connected the country with its imperial roots, along with bringing forth the nation of a single Taraestan nation having been established during the imperial control of the country.

Taraest is a Unitary, Semi-Presidential, Republic. Taraests constitution dates back to the abolition of the Monarchy in 1915, when it became a representative republic. Taraest had become a Constitutional monarchy in 1891, after the country faced possible uprising in opposition to the Monarchy. It remained a Parliamentary republic until 1965 when it voted to turn the mostly ceremonial President into a directly elected position with various powers. The country has been characterized for its stability and functionality. The country is governed on the basis of a multi-party democratic system and the separation of powers between the 3 branches of government legislative, executive and judicial branches.
It is a Semi-Presidential republic where executive functions are held by both the President and the Prime-Minister. The President is elected directly through universal adult suffrage to serve a 4 year term. The Prime Minister is a sitting member of the legislature, with the decision on who to name as Prime Minister resting solely within the President. The Prime Minister serves at the will of both the president and the legislature, as they can be removed by the president or through a vote of no confidence through the legislature. The President by law is mandated sole control of foreign policy, and the armed forces. Both the president and the prime minister along with their cabinet dividing the remaining responsibilities as seen fit. The current President is Cosmina Banica, and the current Prime-Minister is Andrei Vaduva.
The Legislative branch is the unicameral Camera Cetăţenilor (Chamber of Citizens).
