The Besmenian schilling (Besmenian: Besmenischer Schilling, or colloquially called Schilling) is the official currency of the Federal Republic of Besmenia.
History
Introduction (1918)
Introduction in West Besmenia (1967)
In the course of monetary union with West Besmenia, the Schilling was introduced in West Besmenia on April 1, 1967. This was probably one of the biggest adjustments during the reunification process for the West Besmenian citizens, since the Schilling in West Besmenia was a symbol of the economic miracle and prosperity in the East Besmenian Federal Republic.

Commemorative coins
Since 1965, commemorative coins have been issued annually, which are also suitable for payment transactions. Until 1998 the BS5 coins were used for commemorative coins. After the BS5 coin was abolished in 1998 and replaced by the BS5 banknote, the BS2 coin has been used for commemorative coins ever since.
For example, commemorative coins were issued to commemorate the 1976 Summer Olympic Games, the 2013 Helmfurt World Cup or the 50th anniversary of the Besmenian reunification in 2016.
Banknotes
First series (1918)
Second series (1921)
Third series (1929)
Fourth series (1942)
Fifth series (1955)
Sixth series (1968)
Seventh series (1983)
Eighth series (1998)
The eighth series banknotes were issued between 1998 and 2002 and were recalled as of 1 January 2021. Since then, the notes can be exchanged at full face value without restriction at the Besmenian National Bank. With the eighth series, the BS5 banknote was introduced for the first time to replace the BS5 coin.
Ninth series (2015)
The eighth banknote series was phased in from June 2015 to May 2018. A novelty was that the former President Erwin Pohl, who died in 2004, is now shown on the BS 5 banknote.
