Freemont County is a county in the state of West Monroe. As of the 2015 census, the population was 2,398,752, making it the second most-populous county in the state. The county seat is Willmington. The county was formed in 1720 from portions of Shelby and Love Counties and organized the following year. Freemont County is part of the Willmington Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

According to the Ibican Census Bureau, the county has an area of 1,777 square miles (4,600 km2). It borders the Gulf of Angola to the southwest, Travis County to the northwest, Shelby County the northeast, Panamor County to the east, and Love County to the southeast.
