The Mako-classis a class of conventional attack submarines in service with the Meridonian Navy. Designed as a replacement for the aging Orca-class diesel-electric submarines, they were selected to be supplied from a modified Lauzannean design in 2014. Mako-class submarines are equipped with air-independent propulsion and were built with operating in the littoral environment of the Meridonian home waters in mind.
Mako-class submarines lack the long endurance and variety of strike options offered by their larger, nuclear-powered cousins in the Moray-class submarines, but are significantly quieter and smaller- thus, they primarily operate within Meridonian home waters. They are capable of carrying up to twenty munitions fired out of four forward torpedo tubes, maintaining a patrol for eighty days unsupplied, and mounting and launching remotely-operated vehicles or swimmer deployment vehicles for special forces.
A total of 26 submarines have been planned, with 14 currently in active service.
