Frederik Johann Kjellstrom by Arnalt Bordes

"Regel Emerige!" is an Emerstarian patriotic, song by Frederik Johann Kjellstrom from 1703 and set to music in 1756. It is strongly associated with the Emerstarian Navy as well as the Emerstarian Empire in general.

Background

Frederik Johann Kjellstrom was an Emerstarian nobleman, poet, and playwright, who was a regular in the courts of Karl IV Lorens, Annette I Maria, Ervin III Karl, and Erik VIII Olaf. He had an interest in Emerstarian culture and history.

In 1702, Kjellstrom, while visiting Karl IV Lorens on campaign in Soumeland, wrote the original lyrics of Regel Emerige. The song is believed to have first been sung during the 1703 Christmas party at Rensulier Palace. The song was later set to music by Emerstarian composer Per Ingvar Ragnvaldsson in 1756.

Several attempts have been made to make "Regel Emerige!" the national anthem of Emerstari instead of "Ervigner Rike", most notably an 1827 attempt of by Georg Martin Jerlmyr. None of these attempts, however, gained much support. "Regel Emerige!" is traditionally played at the coronations of Emerstarian monarchs.

Translated lyrics

"Unto the Kings, the angels came, and said:
Rule Emerstari: Emerstari rule the seas,
Rule Emerstari: Emerstari rules the land,
Rule Emerstari, and may the rule forever!

And, blessed are you, Emerstari, and moreover, are you blessed,
For, under God, Emerstari, are you, and shall you be,
Rule Emerstari, for Emerstari is blessed!

Thusly, them, not so blessed as you, shall fall,
Them, blessed not as you, shall become yours,
Blessed be you, Emerstari, for those others shall fall!

Unto the Kings, the angels came, and said:

Rule Emerstari: Emerstari rule the seas,
Rule Emerstari: Emerstari rules the land,
Rule Emerstari, and may the rule forever!"
