World Wars and Cold War

Following World War II, Maszale experienced a rapid increase in population. Most of Southern Kathia was destroyed, however, Maszale was not as destroyed by the war as Cote-Sud and Vanne. Ethal's population increased sevral times over from 100,000 in 1950 to nearly 700,000 people in 2017. The economy also changed rapidly from largely agrarian to a modern, industrial economy that is now the second largest in the country. The large and rapid growth is largly attributed to the lower prices and largely non-unionized population. Another factor is migration from the Kathic Rust Belt, where many large industries left or closed following World War Two.

The diversity in the climate has been a contributing factor to a yearly increase in tourism from within Kathia and abroad. The major airports and train stations of Ethal see a yearly growth in passengers.

Economy

AS of 2017, Maszale had a GDP of $301 billion dollars, making it the second highest in Kathia. This is mainly attributed to the large population growth in the last 50-60 years. The economy is mainly based around electronics, vehicle manufacturing, aerospace, financial services, and services. The energy sector is also a growing field, with large oil deposits in the Elyrian Sea as well as the large wind farms in the province. Maszale is home to Airbus Industrie, which has its main headquarters in Lavala along with it's main assembly plant. The Auroran Space Agency also has a facility in the province. The province also has a large automotive industry, with the headquarters of Volvo in St. Sarah. Volvo, Iszada, and Saveau have plants in the province.

Banking and financial services also play a large role in the province's economy. Evas has a large presence in both Lavala and St. Sarah, and the Bank of Kathia also has offices in both cities. South Kathia Bank & Trust (SKB&T), one of the largest banks ins South West Kathia, is also based in Lavala. Nearly a dozen smaller banks are located in both Lavala and St. Sarah.

Since the 1960s, tourism has played a major part in Maszle's economy. With its diverse terrain with the southern portion of the Cavordans mountains and many beaches brings in a reported 22 million tourists. A majority come from Kathia, but about 4.2 million came from other countries such as Thrace, Ichoria, Grothbord, Zhenia, and Hijjma.

Education

Education ins Maszale is run through the General Education Directorate of Maszale.

Primary and Secondary

In most cases, but not all, schools are divided into three schools, usually Elementary, Middle, and High schools. Schooling is required by all students from ages 5-6 through ages 17-18. Parents or legal guardians are required to ensure that their child is enrolled and regularly attends public, private, religious, or other state sanctioned educational institutions. Children younger than 5 are not required to go to school, however they can attend pre-school.

School District territories are often complex, and in rare cases some elementary and middle schools can feed into a high school in another district. This is mostly common in the larger urban areas such as Lavala or St. Sarah. Homeschooling was, like in the rest of Kathia, allowed until 2013. Prior to its ban about 1% of students were homeschooled in Maszale.

Colleges and universities

The University of Maszale System is Maszale's province-wide university system. The flagship university is the University of Maszale in the capital Curkala. Other main universities in the University of Maszale System: Auvena University, Northwest Maszale University in Dourval, University of Maszale-St. Sarah, University of Maszale-Lavala, and Southwest Maszale University. There are several private universities in the province such as Kourvena University or the religious University of St. Evanne. Two-year community colleges can also be found in many urban areas. The largest university by enrollment was the University of Maszale, while the largest one by area is Northwest Maszale University at 2,121 acres.

Among the private institutions, Vourvena University and St. Sarah University (both in St. Sarah) are both nationally ranked universities. There are numerous other private universities, junior colleges, trade schools, and religious universities.

Collegiate athletics have quite a large following in the province, especially between the University of Maszale and Auvena University. Each campus spend a considerable amount of money on their sports programs. Like many other universities, this is seen as another set of income.
