He was elected leader of the Social Democratic Party of Scalizagasti following the 2013 Social Democratic Party of Scalizagasti leadership election, serving from 11 March 2013 to 3 June 2014 when he was killed in a car crash. First elected in 1997, he was the Minister of Agriculture in Blaine Blaikie's cabinet following the SDP victory in the 2003 Scalizagastian federal election. He was also the SDP critic for Agriculture.
