Part of the Ghilzai tribe, the Khans emigrated to Ottoman Turkey after the Conquest of Constantinople wishing to serve the Ottoman Army as cavalrymen (Sipahis). They swore alleigiance to the Ottoman Empire and to recognise it as a caliphate. A member of this family was appointed Pasha of Sipahistan (the province that later became Sharifistan). When Sharifistani independence was declared in 1922 Sultan Mehmet I of Sharifistan was chosen from this family. They ruled Sharifistan till 2021. During The Communist Invasion in 2020 most of the males in the family died and the royal house is now 64.5% female.
