The Battle of Ostresny was fought on 1 June 1904 between Brytene and Zhenya off the coast of the Zhenyan-owned Ostresny Islands. A Brytisc flotilla of 8 ships seeking to disrupt Zhenyan trade was met in Zhenyan territorial waters by a 6-ship squadron of the Imperial Zhenyan Navy. After a gruesome 4-hour battle, the Brytisc ships withdrew, leaving the Zhenyan navy with a tactical victory but a strategic loss; their naval presence around the Ostresny Islands had been heavily damaged, leading the Brytisc fleet to step up their anti-convoy measures even more. The battle was the last pitched battle fought between Brytene and Zhenya until the Battle of Palotska in September 1906.

Withdrawal of the CFS Grorn

At 10:32 the light battlecruiser CFS Grorn was struck amidships by a shell fired from the TBA. The shell partially detonated the light munitions magazine, blowing a hole 'between wind and water' and inflicting significant casualties, forcing the ship to withdraw from the engagement. The CFS Saeflod moved to cover the retreat.
