The Vitali SDM 1963 (Italian: Sistema D’Arma Modulare 1963; “Modular Weapon System 1963”) is a Cacertian-built modular weapon system that can be configured as an assault rifle, carbine, or belt-fed automatic weapon. It was designed by Ilsa Vitali in the early 1960s and was adopted by the Cacertian Armed Forces after a lengthy trial period. It was later adopted by the Imperial Armed Forces of Ruvelka in the mid-1970s.
It was Cacerta’s first intermediate cartridge weapon utilizing the 5.56×45mm round and served as the primary assault rifle and infantry support weapon until the adoption of the AR556. Although it no longer serves the role of assault rifle, the carbine and LMG variants still see extensive use.
