The Senate is the upper house of the legislature of Legatia. It is the oldest continuously operating legislative body in the world, having been established in TBD BC as the Augustan Senate. It was established in its modern form in TBD in the aftermath of the Popular War.

The Senate was established as the legislative body of the Augustan Republic following the overthrow of the Legatian Kingdom circa 704 BC. The senate conducted most of the Republic's ruling affairs until it was replaced by the Augustan Empire in TBD BCE. Augustan emperors weakened the power of the Senate gradually, and by TBD AD it was mostly an advisory and symbolic body. Following the collapse of the Empire in TBD, it served as a municipal body until the crowning of TBD as King of Augusta in TBD. While King TBD and a handful of successors worked with the Senate, it was reduced to a purely symbolic body by 700 AD. King Domitus II restored the Senate to a more deliberative body in an effort to stem popular protests against his absolutism, however the Senate was the leading organization of the Republican faction in the eventual Popular War of 1723, which overthrew the Kingdom of Legatia and replaced it with the modern Republic.

The Senate currently serves as the 'senior' and upper house of the Legatian legislature. It appoints 16 members from each of Legatia's eight provinces. It is responsible for duties more directed towards executive oversight, including the approval of treaties, confirmation of executive appointees, and the oversight of all matters relating to the military, excluding its funding, which is handled by the Curiate. It is overseen by the Princeps Senatus, a single elected member that serves as 'first among equals' in a capacity to moderate and enforce the rules of the chamber.

Currently, the Senate is ruled by a coalition of the Gold-Purple Union and Christian Union, and meets in the Curia Septuralis in Augusta.
