The Curiate is the lower house of the legislature of Legatia. While tracing its routes back to the popular assemblies of the late Augustan Republic, the Curiate was re-established in 1742 following constitutional reforms.
Following the aftermath of the Popular War, the Legatian Senate ruled as the sole governing body of the nation. May Crisis at the Senate's 'rule by mandate' and unelected nature lead to the establishment of the Popular Curiate, among other major reforms. The Popular Curiate was instrumental in the avoidance of a second civil war, and the eventual abolition of kingdom-era social laws in the early 19th century.
The Curiate serves as the 'junior' and lower house of the Legatian legislature, and elects a total of ### members, known as assemblymen, from across each of Legatia's 8 provinces, in addition to representatives- voting and non-voting- from Legatian territories and dependencies. The amount of delegates is proportional to population, although each Legatian province is allocated a legal minimum of six assemblymen. It is responsible for duties related to government maintenance and upkeep, including all matters relating to revenue and taxation, budgetary approval, and the impeachment of government officials. It is also responsible for conducting tie-breaking votes in the event of Senate deadlock, including the approval and election of officials up to and including the Consul. It is overseen by the Tribunus Curiata, a single elected member that serves as 'first among equals' in a capacity to moderate and enforce the rules of the chamber.
Currently, the Curiate is ruled by a coalition of the Gold-Purple Union and Christian Union, and meets in the Curia Suventianus in Augusta.
