Eleu Kamea is a Kalean activist, philanthropist, and politician. She was born in Aolani, Ho'olua, Kalea on November 22, 2000. She is the younger sister to Lokela Kamea, a Kalean actor. She was elected as the youngest Co-Chair of the Kalean Legislative Assembly at the age of 18 and is currently serving as the youngest Co-President of the Kalean Executive Council. She is the youngest person and second female to be elected Co-President.

Early life and education

Orphaned at the age of two because her biological parents died in a car accident, Eleu was adopted by Aloalo and Malana Kemea, the parents of the Kalean actor Lokela Kamea. From a very young age, she grew close to her big brother, giving him the nickname "Kē", which she still uses today. At age three, she began showing advanced skills in her learning abilities, and by age four was already attending school, a year before children are required to by Kalean law. She quickly excelled at all her studies, eventually graduating within just eight years at the age of 12. From there, she began attending Aolani Provincial University in 2012 just as her brother did. There she majored in political science and minored in economics. It took her just two years in the university's accelerated studies program to attain her Bachelor's degree in both. She then studied for two more years in the same program to get her Master's degree in both, alongside pursuing another minor in international relations. She graduated at the age of 16 with a Master's in Political Science, and a Bachelor's in Economics and International Relations. While attending university, she had began an activist campaign to advocate for social ecology, Jineology, and ending Kalean neutrality. Alonside this campaign, she helped establish and run various not-for-profit charities to help further similar campaigns.

Early work and political involvement

After two years of campaigning and charity work, Eleu put her education to further work and began her campaign for the 2018 Kalean elections where she ran for a seat in the Kalean Legislative Assembly. She was supported by many who she helped through her earlier campaigns and charities, and her biggest supporter became her brother, Lokela Kamea, who had always been supportive of her from a very young age. She would go on to not only be elected but be appointed as Co-Chair of the Kalean Legislative Assembly, the youngest in Kalean history. In 2022, Eleu began her campaign where she ran for Co-President. Once again, she recieved support from those who supported her campaign four years earlier. Her brother even attended several rallies she held to support her. On September 1st, 2022, she recieved a total of 1,637,126 votes, the most of any candidate, and was elected as Co-President of Kalea, the youngest in Kalean history, alongside candidate Noa Apekalmoa.

Political career

Legislative career

During her time as Co-Chair, Eleu oversaw the passage of several landmark pieces of legislation that furthered the protection of minority rights, environmental rights, and women's rights, as well as maintaining the right to self-defense and religious rights. One such piece of legislation was the Defense of Women Act of 2020, or DOWA for short, a bill that allowed for the creation of all-female municipal militia groups for the collective right of women's self-defense. Eleu had authored the bill herself and was "overjoyed" to hear of its passage. "This is an unprecedented win for the rights of women in Kalea and the right to self-defense," she told reporters. Eleu also oversaw the official recognition of Gangkou as part of Zamastan and attended the 2022 CCA Leaders Summit, the beginnings of her campaign promise to end Kalean neutrality.

Presidency

During the short time Eleu has been Co-President, she has been part of a large shift in Kalean politics. Following the sinking of the KMP Iolana, she has seen a large boost in popularity for her approach to both domestic and foreign affairs. Her advocacy, as well as Co-President Noa Apekalmoa's, for joining WEDA played a crucial role in the vote that approved the application for joining the alliance.

Domestic affairs

After being elected, Eleu would take the lead on domestic affairs while. She shifted the policies of the previous administration to take a more aggressive approach. Preservation of cultural sites, national landmarks, and protected lands have become a top priority. Authorities have also began to make greater attempts at preventing crimes targeting minorities and women.

Foreign affairs

While Eleu's counterpart Noa Apekalmoa may have taken the lead on foreign affairs, she has supported his decisions thus far to take a more diplomatic approach in Taupo and to provide support in the invasion of Terehan. Additionally, she will once again be attending the 2023 CCA Leaders Summit, with the subject of global environmental policy as a major point of discussion.

Political positions

Civil liberties and human rights

Eleu believes the individual freedoms of expression and choice are irrevocable; that the freedom of information is not only an individual right, but an important social issue that depends on the existence of an independent media whose communication with the public is marked by democratic balance; the freedom and rights of women must be a strategic part of the fight for freedom and democracy; and the right to native language and culture education must be warranted by both state and civil society.

Economy

Eleu maintains the economic resources are not the property of the state but of the society, and its just redistribution is also extremely essential for the liberation process of the society, and an economy committed to the population should also be based on the implementation of an alternative economic policy that does not aim solely at profit, but a production based on sharing and in satisfying basic natural needs for all.

Education

Eleu is a supporter free education at all levels is a universal right and it is the duty of the state and civil society to provide it.

Environment

Eleu believes that the environmental protection must be taken seriously. She campaigned and raised charity for environmental protection in her late teens.

Healthcare

Eleu holds that free healthcare is a universal right and it is the duty of the state and civil society to provide it.

Security

Eleu firmly believes in the right to self-defense and is a large supporter of the Kalean Democratic Forces, as her brother Lokela Kamea is a Lieutenant Colonel. She supports continuing providing humanitarian aid in Taupo, and she strongly advocated for applying to WEDA.

Personal life

In April 2020, Eleu publicly came out as bisexual, recieving support from many, including her brother Lokela Kamea. In June 2021, she announced that she was in a relationship with someone but refused to divulge any further details. On January 8th, 2023, she and her brother, Lokela Kamea, sat down in an interview with a correspondent from the Kalea Chronicle to discuss their unique relationship and the impact it has had on their respective careers and lives.
