She has three younger siblings, Adam Jr. (born 1967), Todd (born 1970) and Ashlyn (born 1972). She was raised with a Catholic upbringing and attended South Atlanta High School graduating in 1983. She attended Miami Dade College in Miami, Florida and graduated with an associate degree in pre-law in 1986. She met Bartholomew on a blind date and married on August 21, 1987. She worked as a paralegal.

Pierce died at home on November 22, 1997 after suffering from pneumonia related to a cold. Secondary factors included multiple drug intoxication from acetaminophen and dextromethorphan. Pierce's death certificate lists her cause of death as natural but notes that her over-the-counter drugs played a part.
