Johannes Ernst Schmidt (31 May 1908 - 15 August 1996) was a Besmenian politician who served as the 8th Premier of Besmenia from 1964 to 1972. From 1960 to 1974 he was the chairman of the Social Democratic Union. Schmidt also served Federal Minister of the Interior and Vice Prime Minister from 1952 to 1964.

As a result, the SDU was defeated in the 1972 Besmenian federal election by the BVP.
