Khemri Airways (High Khemric: Khēmi Phēoui) is the state-owned flag carrier of Khemri, and among the largest airlines in Majula in terms of number of passengers and destinations served. It is headquartered in Nekhrish, half a mile from Nekhrish International.
Founded in 1940 as Colonial Airways Majula, the airline was a joint Mydran-Khemric venture, with a mixed collection of Asuran and local shareholders. It was initially intended to serve as a regional airline for the Midrasian possessions in Majula. Key operations were centered around the Decanian Sea, with a small number of destinations in the Midrasian metropole. Khemrian independence in 1956 saw the company re-branded as Mydra-Khemri Air, and while the airline saw increased investment from the Pharoah's government, it never became a mass-airway, and recorded an operating loss throughout the period. Following the 1977 Revolution, the Mu government nationalised the company, refusing to compensate the Mydran government and private foreign investors.
It adopted the current name in 1981, and received increased investment from the Khemric government. Under the new administration, the company shifted from an elite airline that largely serviced foreign dignitaries into a mass-airway. In part due to subsidised ticket prices, the number of passengers served increased dramatically from 1977-1990. In line with the Khemric government's conciliatory foreign policy stance from the 1990s onward, the unpaid debts to foreign investors were fully paid by 1998, and the airline began serving new destinations outside of Majula and Sifhar. Despite this increased growth and investment, the company continually reported operating losses. In 2009 the airline worked with other Majula-based airlines to form the Majulan Air Alliance, to encourage increased cooperation and growth among its membership. Prompted by the government, since 2014 the company has pursued a tourism-focused strategy, intending to boost travel to Khemri. In light of this, the company reported an operating profit in 2016.
