Tsui Fung Mei TNTC (14 November 1911 – 23 July 2009) was a Quenminese opera singer, actress, and soldier. She is a notable artist in the Mactongese opera scene and Quenminese music and cinema, performing many songs and starring in a considerable collection of films. She is the mother of magazine writer Tưởng Nhật Hùng and the grandmother of actress, television hostess, and podcaster Nora Tuong.
Mei was born in 1915 to a musician father and literature mother in Bắc Lý. She started performing opera at the age of 16 and became famous as a lead singer throughout her hometown since 19. In 1935, she was drafted into the Imperial Quenminese Army and was assigned to Company II of the 39th Mactongese Infantry Regiment. She experienced combat in Lorica from 1935 to 1937, and she subsequently fought in Joyonghea until the end of the war. During her tenure as a soldier, she entertained her comrades with her singing and organized shows for them. After the war, she officially retired from the military and resumed her career as an opera singer. She experienced severe episodes of post-traumatic stress disorder, especially recalling the memories of the Battle of the Five Mountains, which compelled her to a hiatus of two years. In 1949, she was sought out by a film talent agency, and after an audition, she starred in numerous films and resumed her opera career alongside. Mei also performed for soldiers during the War of Lorican Aggression. She officially retired in 1971, composed her bestseller biography with a writer named Singing Phoenix: Voice of Beauty in Peace and War in 1985, and died in 2009, aged 97.
Mei is considered one of the greats in Mactongese opera, and is recognized as one of the great female leads in the art. In her unit, she was known as the "Singing Phoenix."
