Paroxa was an ancient Velaric town on the island of Tavlar and the capital of a small city-state, located 6.5 kilometres (4 mi) south of Rú Qoh. Although never a major power politically, the town was an important religious centre and renowned as the birthplace of the playwright Malinos (fl. 300-340 AD). Its ruins were excavated by a joint Trellinese-Velaran team between 1970 and 1982, revealing what had been a small but prosperous town. Lavish mosaics still survive in several of its houses and the town includes two amphitheatres, one built around the start of the first millennium and the other c. 310 AD, specifically for showing the works of Malinos.
