RAL — Radiotelevisio Latii, commonly styled RAL, is the national public broadcasting corporation of Latium, owned and controlled by the Latin government, with civilian oversight by the Ministry of the Interior and Ministry of the Treasury.

RAL was first founded in 1915 as the first radio station in Latium, and as of 2018 operates 13 (and 2 overflow) television stations broadcast over digital terrestrial television and 5 radio stations. It is the largest television broadcaster in Latium by audience share, followed closely by Verruscosi Holdings broadcast entities including LTC and Delpha. RAL broadcasts throughout Latium, including the Aveli Islands. RAL broadcasts is also available in neighboring counties due to proximity, and elsewhere by satellite. It offers programming in Latin, Byzantic Hellene, Gelonian and occasionally Audonian; though its online news service offers services in nearly 20 different languages.

While over half of RAL's revenue comes from advertisers and sale of ad time, a substantial portion of RAL's yearly revenue continues to comes from the sale of television license fees.

History

RAL was formed in 1915 during the reign of Emperor John XIII as Radio Latii and became Latium's first radio station. Its inaugural broadcast came on November 7, and was a speech by Emperor John XIII. Regular programing followed two days later, and featured news service, music and readings. RAL became the largest radio broadcaster in Latium by audience share from its inception until the Social War, where is was surpassed by LTC.

RAL became the second broadcaster to launch television service, coming in four months after BRT in 1943. Today, RAL is the largest broadcaster by audience share in Latium.

TV license fee

All televisions owner in Latium are required to purchase a television license for £125 per television in order to legally own a television. Licensing fees are paid to directly to RAL and are classified as a service fee instead of taxation. Licensing fees are set by the Latin Senate after receiving Imperial assent. RAL may seek collection against delinquent licensees and enforcement through the Scholarian Guard. Exemptions are granted for residents over the age of 70.
