Following Rwizikuru's independence, it became the governing party of Rwizikuru, governing Rwizikuru until all political parties were abolished in 1949.
After all political parties were abolished in 1949, the MRR's structure remained intact, as it was used as a platform to help Samhuri Ngonidzashe, and later, Izibongo Ngonidzashe get elected as President of Rwizikuru.
