"The Viceregal Salute" (Indonesian: Hormat Dipertuan Besar; Dutch: De Onderkoninklijk Hymne) is the honours music of the Governor-General of Hindia Belanda, as well as the royal anthem of the Sovereign of Hindia Belanda. It is most commonly performed at official public appearances of the Governor-General within Hindia Belanda and, less commonly, on the arrival of the Governor-General during a State Visit abroad. When performed by a foreign military band during such visits, "The Viceregal Salute" is played immediately after the performance of the national anthem of Hindia Belanda. The performers of "The Viceregal Salute" are generally the various bands of the Hindia Belandan military, most notably the Band of the Viceregal Household. During state dinners and official receptions at the Governor-General's residence, the song is played on a solo violin with piano accompaniment.
History
Lyrics
The lyrics to "The Viceregal Salute" are rarely sung except on certain occasions such as the Installation of the Governor-General, the State Opening of the Hindia Belandan parliament and Commonwealth Day.
Salute to our Resplendent Queen
For she is our Sovereign
And to her Gracious Vicereine
We render our loyalty!
May they remain in health
May this land prosper
And be safe from harm
That we may all live
Together in peace!
