The Sotirian Democratic Party of Imagua and the Assimas (Etrurian: Partito Democratico Sotiriano di Imagua e Assime), or the Sotirian Democratic Party (Etrurian: Partito Nazionale di Imagua) for short, was one of the two major political parties on Imagua and the Assimas, the other being the Democratic Labour Party, operating from 1892 until it merged with the National Labour Party to create the Sotirian Democratic Party in 1997.
Originating in 1892, it was the governing party of the Estmerish colony of Imagua from 1892 to 1917, from 1936 to 1952, and from 1956 to 1960, benefitting from the support of the Eucleo-Imaguan population, who exerted extensive political and economic influence in the country in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. However, from the 1940s onwards, as Imagua became independent, the Sotirian Democrats began to lose influence to the Democratic Labour Party, as the latter garnered extensive support from the majority Bahio-Imaguan and Coian-Imaguan populations.
From 1960 onward, the Sotirian Democratic Party declined in relevance, particularly as many voters saw it as a white supremacist party, due to the fact most of its members and voters were Eucleo-Imaguans. The declined only accelerated when the National Labour Party emerged in 1983 due to a schism within the Democratic Labour Party, which consumed much of its remaining base: by 1992, it lost all seats, and after gaining zero seats, it was dissolved in 1997, when it finally merged into the newly-established Sotirian Democratic Labour Party.
Positions
Economically, the National Party of Imagua is a supporter of neoconservative economic policy, with fewer regulations on the national economy in Imagua and the Assimas.
Socially, while it is considered to be part of the centre-right, the National Party has strongly opposed same-sex marriage and LGBT rights, saying that it threatens the "stability of the family." It has supported the status quo regarding abortion, which may only be received for medical reasons or if the child was conceived of rape.
Election results
These results include all elections contested as the Conservative Party of Imagua (from 1892 to 1944), and the Conservative Party of Imagua and the Assimas (1948 to 2000).
