She previously served in the position from 2004 to 2010. Prior to serving as Speaker she served in the governments of Barbara Rowan and Amélie Maillard as the Minister for Transportation and Communications from 1996 to 2000 and as Minister for Women and Equalities from 2000 to 2002.
