Jarridia, officially the Pure Democracy of Jarridia, is an island state in western Astyria. Its land territory covers approximately 1,837,900 km² (709,620 sq mi), of which the vast bulk - 95% - lies south of the equator. Its nearest neighbours are Kobolis in the north, Ionicus in the west and Kelonna in the south.

The Pure Democracy of Jarridia began as a grouping of people whom sought to establish a nation of their own in the region of Expediencia. Led by its first President, Edward Johnanneson, and with help from the nation's first established allies, Expedience and Egad-Watson, Jarridia quickly grew into a bustling nation. However, the economy suddenly stalled in these early times, and a new President graced the nation. President Jarrod Branam led the nation for many years, and was by far one of the most reverred leaders among the Jarridians and the Westwood Alliance. Upon entering the world stage on the charisma of President Branam, Jarridia quickly took off and became one of the world's super powers during a time when terrorism, violent military struggles genocide, and acigoo plagued the planet.

The Pure Democracy of Jarridia is a gargantuan, cultured nation, ruled by Marianna Stratford with an even hand, and notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 17.124 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Education, although Law & Order and Public Transport are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Shelbin. The average income tax rate is 57%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining, Book Publishing, and Automobile Manufacturing industries.

Politicians constantly ring their voters to remind them how good a job they're doing, prison visits increase substantially during election years, the minority inevitably have their addenda vetoed, and the automotive industry soaks up huge government handouts. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Jarridia's national animal is the Eagle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Mau.

Early Years

The first few years were tough, as they would have been for any nation. Economic hard times seemed to plague the new nation and the military stand-off caused by a Smithsillian terror attack and the defection of the city of Kiakor to become a Jarridian City, certainly didn't help matters either. Eventually found a solid footing and was ready to emerge on the world's stage. Former President Jarrod Branam led Jarridia out into the world with a promise that Jarridia would never be trampled by enemies and that Jarridian Forces would only be used to promote the good in humanity, and indeed all creatures. Jarridia's first true taste of foreign war was in the Egypstan-ViZo War, where Jarridia entered as a supporter of ViZion. The Jarridian military was small at this time, and could only put forth a few brigades, but they stood strong eith their new allies to victory. With the war over, and Jarridian forces back home, President Branam made it a solid point to continue a friendship with ViZion that would soon lead to one of the greatest alliances in world history.
