MalContents is a 2019 comedy-drama starring Rhee Chae-Yeong and Yukika Saito. It is based on real-life events, following the work of Chae Ro-woon and Yumi Takahashi as they uncovered information that would lead to a chain of events known now as the 1998 MalTec Corruption Scandal
History
In 2019 the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Social Solidarity renewed a contest for aspiring writers to propose an idea for a new film, with the eventual winning entry going on to be turned into MalContents.
It was made with assistance from MalTec and MalMart who provided the period equipment for the production, as a result of filming the HQ of MalTec was also briefly moved to Aurora to facilitate space for shooting the film.
Synopsis
In the late ’90s, MalTec is gearing towards opening into the international market, as part of this process the company begins to advertise new job openings in the newly created international division, however, in order to do so, the applicants need to be proficient in Mystrian common. Chae Ro-woon and Yumi Takahashi, friends with ambitions in MalTec join a company-sponsored Common language class to try and secure the job, however, soon they find themselves accidentally caught up in an adventure that leads to the uncovering of a massive scandal.
