Yukika Saito (born 24th November, 1996) is a Malgravean singer-songwriter and actor. Yukika has gained notoriety in the musical scene for using retro themes in her music and has been attributed as one of the reasons behind the increase in popularity of the City Pop scene.
Early life
Yukika was born in the coastal city of Aurora during a calm period for the United Kingdom following the continuation of the peaceful period following the end of the civil war, as Yukika's mother and father were both actively involved in the Malgravean musical industry, Yukika interacted with stars from across the music industry from an early age and soon gained a passion and talent for music herself,
In her early childhood years, her musical talent was recognised by the local Ancestral Study Group and the Free Democratic Youth, with Yukika going to Epping to compete in national musical and poetry competitions, actively competing with entrants from the city of Omsk which has traditionally dominated these competitions.
Following her performances with the Ancestral Study Group and the Free Democratic Youth, Yukika was called into service by the Territorial Defence Force where after basic training her musical talent was utilised touring the country performing popular songs to the troops in the front line, including several historic hits that were performed by her mother, Sakura.
Musical career
After leaving the Territorial Defence Force Sakura was invited to join the MBBC musical competition Music Idol Camp, a popular reality TV show where aspiring musicians compete by performing various solo and group projects, with Yukika coming in 8th place out of 100 contestants.
In spite of her failure to win the competition, Yukika's on-stage personality and her decision to use themes highlighting popular records and themes of the 1980s led to her gaining a small but dedicated fanbase, and in the following year Yukika joined Ascension Musical Productions, a record company owned by the Ministry of Culture.
Yukika was initially put to work by the Ministry of Culture performing in Original Sound Tracks for ongoing Malgravean drama series such as Adventurer High School, however, after her performances in these OSTs started to gain wider popularity she was allowed to start work on her own album, with Yukika releasing Epping Girl in 2017, with the album title track using retro City Pop themes to highlight Yukika's decision to move to Epping.
Following the moderate success of Epping Girl, Yukika performed in small venues across Malgrave and the Research Colony and in 2018 and 2019 followed up her first album with a mini-albums called Winter Joy an album mixing elements of M-Pop and City Pop to highlight the joy of love and the pain of heartbreak and Argon an album focused on her life back in her hometown of Aurora.
Yukika continued to perform in small venues across Malgrave heading into 2020 when she released Tomorrow an album that uses retro City Pop themes to focus on celebrating the hope of the future, with the album title track noted by Malgravean reviewers for its pleasing choreography and tone.
Acting Career
Following on from her work in the Territorial Defence Force, Yukika started doing voice work for the Malgravean Broadcasting Corporation and appeared as a few minor characters in series like Adventurer High School.
In 2018 Yukika stopped her work as a voice actor to focus on her musical career, however, a few months later she was scouted as a potential actor for a new film project and was brought on board to play Yumi Takahashi in MalContents alongside Rhee Chae-Yeong
Since then Yukika has also had small appearances in projects like Ancestral Guest House and Travellers.
