Elections in Rwizikuru

Elections in Rwizikuru are held on the national, district, and local levels.

Criteria

To be eligible to vote in a Rwizikuran election, one must, according to the Rwizikuran constitution, be:

• over the age of eighteen (18) years have the right to vote
• unless convicted of treason, sedition, or corruption, or awaiting trial for a corruption case

To run for public office, one must be over the age of 18, have not been convicted of treason, sedition, or corruption, or awaiting trial for a corruption case, and must pay a deposit of 6,250,000 shillings which they may only receive back if they win more than 5% of the vote in a district.

Elections

Under the 2020 Rwizikuran constitution, elections to the National Assembly are held, at most, every four years, although elections may be called earlier if the government loses confidence, and the National Assembly cannot select a replacement from among themselves for the Mutungamiri and/or his cabinet after three months or if the National Assembly is unable to elect a Mutungamiri after three months of an election.

All 100 seats of the National Assembly are elected using first-past-the-post.
