The University of Aalmsted is a public research university located in Aalmsted, Azmara. It was founded in 1863 after the consolidation of power by Azmara's republican government in order to open up higher education to the middle and working classes and to provide both education in the natural sciences and secular education, as opposed to the Church of Azmara-affiliated, liberal arts colleges of Sloh, Wucing and Eśensted. Upon being founded, the institution absorbed many specialised educational institutions in Aalmsted, such as the Aalmsted Technical Institute, Eleinasburg College and Free College.

The University is organised into 12 institutions which provide both education in specific subject areas and accommodation to undergraduate students, leading to it often being described as a collegiate university, with the system evolving due to the university's nature of having absorbed multiple institutions which already possessed such facilities. The university lacks a proper campus and its buildings, both central and those belonging to its member institutions, are scattered throughout the city, with most being located in the boroughs of Eleinasburg and Lilijenburg. It has the largest yearly budget of any university in Azmara, gaining almost 1 billion Euclos a year in funding.

The university currently has slightly over 25,000 students enrolled on its courses, of which 11,000 are postgraduate students. It is often considered to be the most prestigious university in Azmara, topping many national rankings, and is a member of the Aahtbund grouping of the country's top universities as well as of the ET10 grouping of elite universities in the Euclean Community. Among its graduates are 10 Thingspeakers and several prominent figures in academic, cultural, social and political spheres within Azmara.
