The Baltican Air Force (BAF) is the military aviation branch of the Baltican Armed Forces. It is currently comprised largely of old aircraft from the 1980s-1970s and is currently undergoing modernization as part of Balticas greater military modernization scheme. As of now, its main HQ is situated at General Augustinians Air Base in the Territory of Ramuti.
History
Republic Era (1937-2022)
The Baltican Aifroce was first established in 1937, at the direct behest of General Augustinas Valdermintis a vet and major combatant during the first civil war. He oversaw the construction of the first BAF Air Base in modern-day Goja and also saw the BAF purchase its first aircraft in 1939. Shortly thereafter Augustinas was appointed the role of Head Commander of the BAF. As part of Valdermintis attempts to establish a "proper" Baltican Air force, he signed the creation of the Baltican School of Aviation in Kretia, which began taking students in 1941. By 1945, the Baltican Air Force had 117 Aircraft and 343 Pilots. More BAF bases would be constructed throughout Baltica, most notably in Kretia, Vikija, Sveaja and Govir. Much of the Baltican high command would criticize Augustinas and his quite lavish spending, seeing as the airforce was making up over 38% of all military spending from 1940-1946. This would see the BAF budget reduced heavily, and in 1951 Augustinas would resign after complaining that the air force was being held back by Baltican Bureaucracy.
His complaints would prove true, as the BAF would be largely sidelined and ignored for the rest of the 20th century, only having 24 Aircraft by 1970. Many of their bases would also get seized by the Land Forces, who would subsequently turn them into barracks and storage facilities. Despite all this, in 1984 the BAF was able to successfully finance the construction of General Augustinians Air Base, named after their first and most beloved General. Much of the existing air force would subsequently be moved to General Augustinians Air Base, leaving many of the remaining bases to be sold by the air force to acquire further funding and reduce maintenance costs. Before the outbreak of the Second Baltican Civil War, the Airforce was attempting to undergo a small modernisation effort, as it began looking to purchase additional recond and utility aircraft. All of this would be halted after the outbreak of the war, but luckily most of the Air Force survived, seeing as no faction had enough resources to reform the Air Force.
Modern Era (2022-Present)
After the formation of the Land Forces and Naval Forces, the BAF would too be reformed. Luckily for the Central Government, the Republic of Raskia (Which had captured much of the former air force) would transfer all aircraft to the Central Government, who then would transfer them all to the province of Ramutia, holding a ceremony to commence the 85th anniversary of the BAF.General Augustinians Air Base would be granted to the Central Government during the anniversary, and it became the official HQ of the air forces.
Modernization
Currently, the Batican Government plans to undergo a total Air Force modernization by 2030. As of now, it's looking for companies and governments alike to sign long-term contracts aiming to secure new aircraft past 2030.
