Jabiyah, officially Greater Jabiyah, is the capital city of Gassasinia. With a population of more than 10 million, Jabiyah is also the largest city in Gassasinia. It is centred on a mountainous peninsula formed by a convergence of the northern Haima river and the southern Rama river, the mouth of which forms a sizeable natural harbour.

Jabiyah has been host to human settlement for at least 5,000 years. In ancient times the city was known as Tikhius, from which the historical city centre of Tikhius derives its' name. Due to its' advantageous natural harbour and easily defensible city, Jabiyah came to form the most influential of the independent Magrekite city-states.

Greater Jabiyah was formed in 1996 from a merger of Jabiyah City and New Jabiyah, a collection of settlements on the outskirts of the city. Greater Jabiyah is composed of 25 different Districts. The most populous district, Jabalah, lies across the Rama River from

Government of Gassasinia

Parliament House, home to both houses of the Gassasinian Parliament. Parliament House is notable for its' combination of traditional Midwestern Thrismari elements with modernist architecture.

Jabiyah is the seat of the Government of Gassasinia. The Parliament House, which hosts the House of Representatives and House of Peers, is located in Jabiyah, along with the Prime Minister's residency and the central headquarters for Gassasinia's ministries and government agencies.

Many of these government offices are located within Jabalah, a quarter of the city which is located outside of the down-town business and commerce districts of Jabiyah and more towards the suburbs of the city.

Government Services

Law enforcement in Greater Jabiyah is provided by the Greater Jabiyah Police Service, who also work in close cooperation with the Ministry of Transport Police and Republic of Gassasinia Police Force to police railways, military properties and motorways within Greater Jabiyah's borders.

Fire and emergency medical services are provided by the Greater Jabiyah Fire and Rescue Service. Paramedic services are also provided by a number of local hospitals, the Gassasinian Red Cross Society, and Jewish Haztalah volunteer paramedics. Air ambulance services are operated by the Gassasinian Civil Defence Force.

The Greater Jabiyah Transport Authority provides a wide range of bus, coach and trolleybus services throughout the city.

Most criminal cases are tried at the assize court attached to the Prisons and Probation Agency-run Tarine Prison, a Class 3 closed prison containing separated sections for convicted prisoners and persons awaiting trial.
