At the party conference on September 5, 1966 in Helmfurt, the DB was officially founded as a political party. In the 1966 West Besmenian legislative election, DB won the election with 30.9% and formed the first freely elected West Besmenian government since 1923 under its chairman Horst Lommberg as President with the Conservative Union of Besmenia as a minor coalition partner.
