The Escualido-Class Interceptor is a type of fast-attack/patrol boat built in Inyursta. It's name, "Escualido" means "Dogfish Shark" in Inyurstan. An extremely small craft, its primary mission is to hunt other fast attack and missile boats.

Targets & Conceptualization

Originally designed as a fast patrol boat for maritime law enforcement activities, the boat was surprisingly fast-tracked into service with the Inyurstan Navy due to a forseen need to engage small missile boat swarms. The ASM-7 STRIKE missile carried by aircraft is considered to be capable of destroying or mission-killing smaller enemy ships, such as OPVs and "missile boats"; however, the need to be able to deploy missiles closer to the enemy swarm as well as in conditions unfavorable to aircraft was determined to be urgent.

More recently, the proliferation of maritime "kamikazae drones" has also raised the need for short-range, sea-level engagement of small targets.

Short Comings

Because the Escualido is a small boat originally designed for inshore activities, its operation as part of a larger carrier group (GCP or GCA) or surface patrol group (GSP) is dependent entirely on shelter, transport and refueling provided by other ships, for example the San Ignacio Class Hybrid Warfare Dock. In many cases, the ability to properly house or dock these ships is limited to larger "flattops" or cruisers. Likewise, its operation is limited in cases of poor environmental conditions, particularly Beaufort Sea State of 5-6 or higher. Both survival and targeting of surface-level, within horizon threats (especially with guns).

Variants

Escualido-M: Missile-carrying variant with x12 surface-launched SSM-7 STRIKE in the aft turrets.
Escualido-F: "Gunboat" variant with x1 RK-23-3 "Venom" rotary canon in the furthest aft turret and a GE-3 HMG in the center-aft turret. All three guns are directed by radar or manual laser direction
Escualido-L: Lighter version used by law enforcement with a .50cal MG in the bow turret and unarmed in the aft.
