The Federation Air Force (FAF) is the aerial and Space warfare service branch of the Belfrasian Armed Forces and began it's life as part of the Belfrasian Army. The RAF started it's life as the Flying Warfare Corps of the Army and was formed as a separate branch of the Armed Forces on 2 August 1942 under special legislation to appropriately fund it separate from Army projects. It is the youngest of the service branches, with both the army and Federation Navy being formed in the aftermath of independence in the 1860s.
The Air Force played a prominent role in the Federation's military history of the 20th century, supporting ground forces in the 1970s-1980s war on the southern cartels and providing a protective presence along the coasts of the country.
Today the Air Force describes itself as being responsible for "Nuclear deterrence by land, air superiority, space superiority, command and control of the forces" and responsible for the "conception, training, and deployment of air mobile special forces to enforce the Federation's interests overseas as necessary." It, along with the Federation Navy, provide the most visible projective power permanently based overseas, with the Air Force having air bases in several nations across the world.
