Nikolia is executive constitutional monarchy with bicameral legislature as its form of government. The head of state is the King of Nikolia. After the Great Astyrian War, the then-Emperor Petar IV reformed the government by abolishing tsarist absolutism, created the constitution and granted more power to the executive branch of the government.

Constitution

Executive branch

The executive powers rest within the King of Nikolia and the Crown Council. The Crown Council is supreme governmental council which brings together the principal officers of the Executive Branch of the Nikolian government. This include the chairman of the government and ministers of government departments.

Legislative branch

Legislative power is vested in the unicameral parliament known as the National Assembly of Nikolia. It is composed of 650 delegates elected every four years by all adult Nikolian citizens in a mixed system of constituency voting and list voting.

Judicial branch

Ducal Council

Although not explained as such in the constitution, Ducal Council is often viewed as the upper house of the Nikolian parliament. It assembles an equal amount of representatives from each of the 10 Nikolian Voivodeships, elected by the voting in the National Assembly and proposed by the parliaments of their respective Voivodeships. Purpose of the Ducal Council is to vote on legislative initiatives of the Nikolian government, specially those directly affecting Voivodeships.
